This statement sets out the steps Import Supplies Ltd has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in our business or supply chains. It is published voluntarily and reflects our commitment to ethical sourcing.
While our annual turnover is below the threshold at which the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires a formal s.54 statement, we believe the issue is important enough to address publicly regardless of legal obligation.
1. Our business
We import non-perishable food, short-dated branded lines and household supplies into the UK and supply them wholesale to UK retailers, wholesalers, food-service operators and registered charities. Our supplier base is concentrated in the UK and the EU, with a smaller proportion of non-EU origin product purchased through reputable importers and manufacturers.
2. Policies
We have a zero-tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking. Our supplier onboarding includes:
- Verification of supplier company registration and trading history.
- Preference for suppliers that hold relevant audited certifications (e.g. BRCGS, SMETA, IFS).
- An expectation that suppliers comply with applicable employment and human rights law.
- The right to terminate a supply relationship where credible concerns arise.
3. Due diligence
Where a supplier is unknown to us, we conduct a documented onboarding check before placing a first order. We avoid sourcing from regions and producers where credible independent reports indicate systemic labour-rights concerns. For European-origin product, our reliance on established producers and short-dated stock from major retailers means most of our supply chain is already subject to the audit programmes of those upstream customers.
4. Training & awareness
Our team is briefed on modern-slavery red flags, including unusual payment patterns, unwillingness to provide audit documentation, and supplier resistance to site visits. We review this briefing annually.
5. Reporting concerns
Anyone with a concern relating to modern slavery in our supply chain can contact us in confidence at sarah@importsupplies.co.uk. Concerns will be investigated promptly and, where appropriate, referred to the relevant authorities.
6. Approval
This statement is approved by the directors of Import Supplies Ltd and will be reviewed annually.
